He was born again in to the family of God by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal savior by Grace through faith and became a child of God. He testified his faith in the waters of baptism and continued in the fellowship of local assembly and grew spiritually. He married Elsie on May 14th , 1959 and started their married life together, committing their life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God blessed them with 3 beautiful children and 5 grand children. Mathews and Elsie migrated to USA in 1976 looking forward to a better life. They joined with the believers in New York and worshiped the lord together in India Gospel Assembly.

He was also known as kindhearted and a loving person. His passion was to entertain God's people in his home and support the needy generously. His desire to help people in India was exceptional.
As a husband, he was faithful and affectionate to his wife. As a father he was exemplary to his children. He loved his grand children and they were his pride and joy. He gave them advices and encouraged them to grow rooted in the word of God and walk with the Lord.
From the time he came to New York, he and his family was in fellowship with the India Gospel Assembly and later Br. Mathews served as one of the Elders of India Gospel Assembly until he left New York.

On December 31, 2008 he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and there the Lord was pleased to call him home to receive his crown of righteousness on January 14, 2009 at 1 05 PM.
He left a legacy and remarkable model to follow in many ways. He inspired many lives through his exemplary life. His love and affection was wholesome and without hypocrisy.
