REV.DR.WILLIAM KALIYADAN: BY THOMAS KOOVALLOOR

Rev. Dr. William V. Kaliyadan, a La Salette Missionary was born on May 28, 1965 in Poyya (Mala), Kerala, India. He finished his Philosophy in Alwaye. Then he went to the seminary in the Philippines to study Theology with La Salette Missionaries and was ordained to priesthood on February 22, 1994. He then served St. Matthew Parish, in the Philippines with 30,000 parishioners for one year as parochial vicar and three years as pastor. Simultaneously, he was the director of a 1400- student La Salette School, a role he took on after being a priest for only a short time. During this period he earned his M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling. After 11 years of stay in the Philippines, in August of 1998, he was transferred to La Salette shrine in Attleboro, MA for one year. Five years he served as parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Cape Parish in Brewster, MA. Since 1994 he serves Sacred Heart parish, Lebanon, NH, as pastor and Dean of Upper Valley deanery of the diocese of Manchester. Simultaneously, he serves as the regional superior for La Salette Missionaries in New Hampshire, Vermont and Canada and the Consultative Body of La Salette administration in North America. In May 2009 he finished his Doctorate in Marriage and Family Counseling.

In a recent gathering of La Salette Missionaries of North America on October 26-30, 2009, which was held in Orlando, Florida, Rev. Dr. William Kaliyadan was elected Provincial Councilor of La Salette Missionaries (Provincial Superior- Joseph Bachand. Councilors – James Kucthinsky and William Kaliyadan). La Salette Missionaries have entrusted him with this big responsibility to administer the congregation for the next three years. This was the first time in the history of La Salette Missionaries a foreign born La Salette was elected to this administrative position in North America.
