LEARNING HUMILITY FROM CHRIST BY MAX BARRETT CSSR FORWARDED BY CYNTHIA ABEGAIL

LEARNING HUMILITY FROM CHRIST

"Genuine humility consists of accepting and living the truth of
our dependence on God. St Paul said, 'What do you have that was
not given to you? And, if it was given, how can you boast as though
it were not?'
Humble yourself and you will find favor with the Lord. Let your
centre of gravity be in God not your own resourcefulness. Sometimes,
we batter one's way to heaven thinking that the messianic kingdom is
something to be earned. It was not for the Pharisees (those who follow
the law rigidly) just as it is for us to carry a holier-than-thou attitude.
If this is the case, we sure had missed the point." (Max Barrett)
*Sometimes, our flesh dictates that we judge ourselves better than
others. When the centre of our life is "us" or "I"... then it maybe just
a shadow of what happened in Genesis. The first parents disobeyed
God and they thought they could get away without following God. Death
followed "For the wages of sin is death." (Letter to the Romans)
By second thought, what we have really to remind ourselves is our
inadequacy before God. The trust that endures wins. It's not easy,
I know.
On the other hand, following the will of the Lord at all times
is truly the best option. As King David utters in Psalm 23... "The Lord
is my shepherd, I shall not want. Even though I walk through the
valleys of the shadows of death, I shall not fear for Thou art with me..."
