Harmony of the kosmos/CYNTHIA ABEGAIL'S COLUMN

Reflecting on Gen 8 and 9, we encounter a God who is loving and faithful. "I will no more

curse the earth because of man ... So long as the earth lasts, seedtime and harvest,

cold and heat, summer and winter, night and day shall not cease" (Gen 8: 21-22).

"Behold I have established my alliance with you, and with your descendants; and with every living thing among you, all that has come forth out of the ark, all the living things of the earth.

I have established my alliance with you; never again will all flesh be destroyed by the waters

of the flood, nor shall there be henceforth a flood to lay waste to the earth." (Gen 9: 9-11)

The sign of this alliance with Noah encompassed the totality of creation. "This is the sign of the alliance which I place between me and you and all the living things among you from generation to generation; I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be the sign of alliance between me and the earth" (Gen 9: 12-13).

Therefore, after the Great Flood, the universe in matter regained its equilibrium, its rhythmm...

Gen 8:22 " summer and winter, night and day, shall not cease parallels the words of Gen. 1:3-5:

"God divided the light from darkness...

As in Psalm 135, "for his great love is without end." God affirms in the Psalms, "I have love you

with an everlasting love."
