THE LOSS OF THE TEMPEST BY CYNTHIA ABEGAIL
THE LOSS OF THE TEMPEST
Not only a gust of wind but a hurricane,
Without mercy lashed on the landline
Lifts the trees, nipas, bamboos in rows
Threw tantrums like a child on show!
The strongest cyclone in the east and west,
Typhoon Yolanda in the international scene
But for the Visayas, named Typhoon Haiyan
Chaos all around, debris and dead on land.
Caught the world by surprise, what a tempest!
Never in history such a speed so fierce not blest,
The Pearl of the Orient Seas, dame of the East
Some islands devastated in unseen conquest...
The superpowers rushed to aid the central pearl,
What a generous spirit, never forgotten for real
Ships come and go, jets brushed to and fro---
The West led as a good Samaritan, so humane!
We will arise again, says the Filipinos again,
Their resilience unequaled in all domain
The tempest did not win for there is a victor!
Our God who never abandon His people...
