INSCRIPTIONS WHICH WILL NEVER FADE# GEORGE KURIAN

My friends told me that the war cemetery in Imphal, the capital of Manipur State is a very beautiful monument. It was 1960 and I was new in Manipur state, a north eastern state of India bordering Burma, now Mynamar. Serenity had filled the air and a cool breeze embraced me in that morning. The place was really beautiful and had been adored with rose flowers. The rose plants tenderly touched the graves on which the fallen soldiers' names were inscribed on everyone. The rose flowers kissed the graves and dews were resembled their tears. The soldiers had fought the second world war that saved India and the whole world. As a boy I had read about the second world war and then studied history in the school and college which had given me more information about the war. A few moments later I saw an inscription,
"When you go home tell them of us and say, we have given our today for your tomorrow"
I read it again and again and wept. I still am sad when those letters come into my mind. Because of their sacrifice, we have freedom and we live in a free world. I salute those fallen ones and  pray to God to give peace to their souls in their abode.
