Reflections from the Book of Genesis till the Book of Revelation ( Series) by Cynthia Abegail

Now the serpent was the most cunning of all animals that the Lord had made.  The serpent asked the
woman, "Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?"  The woman answered the serpent, " We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, it is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, "You shall not eat or even touch it, lest you die.  But the serpent said to the woman: "You certainly will not die!  No, God knows that the moment you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is bad. The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom.  So she took some of its fruit and ate it and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her and ate it.  Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realised that they were naked, so they sewed fig leaves together,... Gen 3: 1-7

This is the first lie of the serpent and the first disobedience and fall of man.  This is the same way that
temptation is offered to us, in a platter of fruit beautifully decorated with traps and lies.  Sins seem
palatable and honey-sweet but the consequences are so bitter--death for the wages of sin is death!
We do not mean just the death of the body or soul alone but the death of body and soul!

Sins are that serious because it will spell our future of either bliss with God, our Father or eternal separation from Him.  We all have experience in direct battle with sin and we realise we are weak without alliance with God, Angels and saints.  We will be hopeless.  As St Paul reiterated in Ephesians 6: 12, "For our struggle is not with the flesh and blood but with the principalities; with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens."

We are battling with spiritual evil so one has to worship God in truth and spirit.  One has to know his enemy to defeat it.  We can only overcome it by the blood of Jesus and by putting the armor of God.

Be vigilant, evil is all around!  Pray, attend Mass, get the sacrament of reconciliation, read the Word of God and above all love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbour as yourself.
