REFLECTIONS ON THE BOOK OF GENESIS BY CYNTHIA ABEGAIL
The sun was just rising over the earth as Lot arrived in Zoar, at the same time the Lord rained down
sulphurous fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah (from the Lord out of heaven). He overthrew those cities and the whole Plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil. But Lot's wife looked back, and she was turned into a pillar of salt. Early the next morning Abraham went to the place where he had stood in the Lord's presence. As he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole region of the Plain, he saw dense smoke over the land rising like fumes from a furnace. Thus it came to pass: when God destroyed the Cities of the Plain, he was mindful of Abraham by sending Lot away from the upheaval by which God overthrew the cities where Lot have been living.
That time, the people had gone so bad from prostitution to sodomy to blasphemy and the like. It is
time again for purification of that place! The place was devastated and the power of God was evident. As we ponder, it seems their time is up. Evil can proliferate at times, but evil always has an end. The good always, in the long run, overcome evil.
We will wonder, what kind of people are those people? These are people who have consummated
evil desires, who tramples God's commandments. How they attain that state, nobody knows. It just happened. Well, going back to these days... prostitution in every town or suburb, slavery and trafficking of young children, one night stands, pornography everywhere, sodomy, abortion, idolatry and statues of idols, promotion of enneagrams and superstition and marketing of everything the Lord detests!
How is today any better? It is good there are many praise gatherings, mass, sacraments to counteract these evil days. I remembered a priest in New York who included in his homily, "If the people of Sodom and Gomorrah are here today, they will be shamed by what you do because most of you surpassed them!"
Now is the time to recollect our position, are what we are doing for the Lord or against the Lord?
This is the acid test, nothing more. God's mercy is everlasting. The people of Sodom and Gomorrah
had no more time to repent. We do, let us take opportunity of the time we were given to repent. It is not yet late today.
