REFLECTIONS from the Book of Joel
'Now, now-- it is the Lord who speaks-- comeback to me with all your heart, fasting, weeping, mourning.' Let your hearts be broken not your garments torn, turn to the Lord your God again, for he is all tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in graciousness and ready to relent. Joel 2
The Lord is calling his people to repent and leave their old ways. The turning back should be full of love and sincerity and fasting. The focus on this passage is the richness of God's mercy. No matter what one has done, just repent and turn back again to the Lord!
God's mercy is encompassing, welcoming and full of tenderness. It seems the Lord is invoking, "How long have I waited for your coming."
