Happy Pentecost: Reflections by Cynthia Abegail
Mother Mary and the apostles were in the upper room. Suddenly, a gush of wind, strong and mighty pervaded the place! And then tongues of fire settled above each one of them and they were filled with the
Remember the passage in Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters." The same Spirit, the breath of God, the Paraclete visited the Upper Room. They were all afraid pondering on their future when the Spirit of God permeated the atmosphere.
This Sunday is important in the Church Calendar because it stress on the wonderful gifts of God, given freely on those who ask Him without doubt. Such gifts as the gift of wisdom, prophecy
fortitude, awe and reverence of God are indispensable for the building of God's Kingdom.
This is the reason why the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not amenable to the atheists! Because the gifts of the Holy Spirit although freely given is granted only to those who ask for these gifts! How can an atheist ask for God's gifts when they even do not believe that God exists!
The Blessed Mother and the apostles were praying fervently that particular time. They were seeking for clarity and divine intervention. And it was given in abundance..,
And what are the fruits of the Holy Spirit? Peace, joy, love and unity! When there is disunity and conflict, there is something behind that. The presence of God means an utter peace! If there is less peace, we need to pray more, not small prayers but persistent, fervent prayers.
Yes, my dear brothers and sisters, we are in a serious engagement. To engage with God needs time, it is not haphazard like giving time to God when you have nothing to do? What are we doing, an appointment with God Almighty? Surrender all, free yourself from idols for the Lord wants your full being not a fraction. Leave your comfort zone! At the end of the day, we will realise that we have no one to report to, no one to have allegiance to, no one to worship except God alone!
Happy Pentecost Day!
