Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. (Heb 13:16)
God is good! In the same way, He likes us to be good to one another. What a pleasing sight when people are united in the worship of God. How pleasing to see that people show care for the poor and marginalised. When a person go out of his way to help a person in need, that is sacrifice. Why? It is because it is a selfless act. Sacrifices are pleasing to God because these acts arise out of love for family or neighbours.
We may say, "So ideal!" The gospel is not only ideal but real. It is ideal in the sense that it comes from an eternal, holy God. It is real because God is the truth, the reality and the source of love (agape).
We are in this world to please God, our Creator and to love one another. But love, always is sacrifice. We go out of our comfort zone and do ordinary things in extraordinary way. At the end of the day, we could ponder how we could share our time, money and possessions to the needy and the poor. That's our call: "to live simply, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with our God!" (Book of Micah).
