Matthew 5:27-28: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail
"You have heard that it was said, "You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart.". (Matt 5:27-28) Commiting adultery, as we are aware of is a mortal sin. Yet, it is still a forgivable sin as long as there is repentance from us. Adultery in human terms is an allegory of the idolatry of the Israelite people who had sold their souls to many gods particularly Baal. Therefore, when we commit adultery against our husbands, it reverts back to an idolatrous act. It is because a violation of God's commandment is tantamount to selling our souls to another false god. Hence, let us think twice before committing adultery. It has far more spiritual consequences than we could imagine. Let us think about God's plan and not only about transitory pleasures that may lead us to peril. If we have failed in one way or another, its not too late to ask for God's forgiveness. God is so loving and merciful! Let us bend our knees and ask for forgiveness. Thus, we will be saved from this short lapse of judgment! Thank you Lord for your incomprehensible love and mercy for all of us. In Jesus Name, Amen.
