Power can make one drunk: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail

When too much power is in the hands of one person, he or she will regard the desires of her or his heart the desire of the whole group.  It is a manipulative step that is discerned only by a few.  That person will take steps to advance one's agenda.  The person with too much power will not care about the feelings of those they step on.

Sad to say, we encounter at times these situations.  It's not the end of the world.  It just goes to show that power makes one drunk.  As he or she becomes drunk, they do things without much thinking about the outcomes.  As they are drunk with power, they may oppress people not because they intend to, but because the drunkenness works into their psyche!

Is it morally right?  Not really a question of morality but a question of perspective.  When one is weak, then he is strong in the Lord.  Let us ponder on the ill-effects of power.  Sobriety is the rule of the thumb.  Let us not be drunk with power but let us be drunk by the power of the Holy Spirit---Becoming drunk in the sense of submission and docility to the will of the Holy Spirit.  Let us remember that it should not be our will that we exact on others but the will of God for the common good.  It is not us only who decide but the whole group!  Manipulation is never from God, it maybe from the other one.

My dear brothers and sisters, when someone just dictate what we should do without effective consultation, that is dictatorship in a milder form!  Let us respect one another.  By so doing, you earn the true respect of your neighbours.

Let us pray that those drunk with power may return to sobriety.  That the goals of the Kingdom of God maybe the priority, not one's self-interests.  Through the powerful intercession of Mother Mary, St Joseph, St Michael the Archangel, all the angels and saints.  Amen.
