Moses did not trust the Lord, at the waters of Meribah

"The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and your brother Aaron, and command the rock before their eyes to yield its water.  Thus you shall bring water out of the rock for the congregation and their livestock.

So Moses took the staff from before the Lord, as he had commanded him.  Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, 'Listen, you rebels, shall we bring water for you out of this rock?'  Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, water came out abundantly and the congregation and their livestock drank.  But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not trust in me to show my holinessbefore the eyes of the Israelites, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.  These are the waters of Meribah, where the people of Israel quarrelled with the Lord, and by which he showed his holiness."  (Numbers 20: 7-13).

One of the points in these passages is:  The leaders are accountable to God.  The leaders in this world are supposed to heed God and not men.  The edicts of the Lord are to be obeyed and they must not give in to the wishes of many if it violates God's commandments.  The leaders must lead the people closer to God and not further to God with any issues.  Trust in the Lord.  In the same way as King Solomon led his people to greatness, the leaders could bring his land to prosperity through God's mercy and grace alone.  Otherwise, to the nation's downfall as King Solomon started to follow the idols of his wife.  Yes, idols could be anything from following the wishes of the Evil One, from materialism to superstition to the worship of false gods;  actually they do not exist.  It's the people who attribute power to them in their minds and souls.

Secondly, trust in the Lord fully.  Strike the rock once in your life, not twice.  "Oh Lord, please hear my prayer,"then resign your will to Him.  Trust unconditionally and your prayers will be heard.  "Will the Lord answer?  Yes, in His time and in His way.  Because He is God Almighty!  In Jesus Name.  🙏 Amen.
