On the third day there was a wedding in Cana at Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and me?" My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever he tells you."...Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, 'Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward. So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where they come from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now. Jesus did this, the first of his signs in Galilee and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. (Jn 2: 1-11)
This is the first signs of Jesus during his ministry on earth. It is quite obvious that Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus noticed that the couple will be in deep embarrassment when they lose wine, a symbol of abundance in wedding feast. She saw the need of a miracle which Jesus could do!
On the other hand, the answer of Jesus seems daunting for her, "My hour has not yet come." From the flow of the story, Mother Mary was persistent and she knows the heart of her Son, the flesh of her flesh by the union with the Holy Spirit. "Do whatever he tells you." In the same way, our children listen to us because they love us. In the passages, Mother Mary has great faith in Jesus, our Lord. Although Jesus' hour has not yet come, his mother know in her heart that Jesus cannot refuse her request. Jesus is in the very midst of the anguish of the couple, Jesus will always help and assist to the rescue of those who face difficulties.
Jesus do miracles not for its own sake but to reveal the glory of His Father. The changing of water into wine could only be done by "The Alpha and the Omega, The Way, The Truth and the Life, the I AM, the God of our forefathers!
Let us believe in Jesus, sent by Abba Father to rescue all of us from peril and from the pit. No one knows the time, so let us be vigilant and prepare for that day when the Lord summons us to be with Him and see Him face to face (Book of John). There, we have a place prepared by the Lord, a mansion in His Father's house.
