I Will Indeed Bless You: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail

“The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, and said, ‘By myself I have sworn, says the Lord:  Because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore.’”  (Gen 22:15-17).

Abraham has a great faith in God, that even when God via the angel asked him to sacrifice his only son, he did not withheld his son.  It is true; at times we are asked by God to sacrifice something to prove our love for Him.

At the end of the day, we ask ourselves, who is the most important?  Without hypocrisy, we will say, “God alone!”  This is the wisest answer in the world!  For not only that God is our Creator and Provider, He is our Saviour.

Indeed, some will say, “Family.”  Of course, we love our family, but the point is:  “Who is the One we should love the most?  God, and God alone!  Look at the saints, they are focused on God, yet not neglect their families.  If we are grounded on God, the more we could love others because He gives us the grace to be more loving!

When all things are said and done, we can recall what Joshua said in the olden days, “ As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord!” Amen.

Lord, although we really feel that we are passionately in love with you, please grant us the grace to always obey you.  That we may be able to nurture our relationship with you.  That just like Abraham, may you bless us more like the numerous stars in heaven and even more than the grains of sand in the sea.  In Jesus Holy Name, Amen.
