Blind guides who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.  You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law, judgment and mercy and fidelity.  (But) these you should have done, without neglecting the others.    Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel."(Matt 23: 23-24).

As leaders of the law, we have a responsibility to be good examples to our flock.  We may fail too, not a problem, but we just ask for the grace of God to lead us to the right path.

There may be times that we could use the power invested in us for our own glorification or for the subjugation of our people.  The law of course, is good in itself.  We must follow the giving of tithes or of our talents for the service of God and for our own people.  It only becomes useless in itself if we use this privilege to let other people carry the yoke of burden, when we do all types of injustices and when what we do does not make sense with mercy and justice of the Lord!  We follow all rules and regulations in all its tiny details, yet we may oppress people and we maybe unkind and rude to other people in all galore.  Not good!

Let us pray today that God will give all of us the grace of mercy and kindness to all of the people we encounter.  That if others are unkind to us, we may still respond with prayer for them that God may touch their hearts.  That we may tread our life with justice and truth.  That our hearts maybe open to receive God's love and mercy all the days of our lives.  All of these we pray, in the Most Holy Name of Jesus.  Amen.
