The book of Ecclesiastes contains a rich legacy and truth about life and morality. Vanity is in the midst of us! It is when self-aggrandisement is at the centre. For instance, people are obsessed with themselves where they compete with one another on who looks best. Fair enough, without tapping on this issue of vanity, many businesses will close down.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with trying to have a good personality. The closer one is to the Lord, the better must he take care of his body. As we all know, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, the issue is not about the care of oneself (which is good in itself). The issue is one’s obsession about oneself! The moment that one focuses too much on the physical attributes of oneself, one divert his or her attention from His Creator. One has to worship God, not oneself! One begins to think less of God when one’s full attention from the morning till night is “Do I look good in social media? What will I wear today to beat my friends? What will I do to make my face more desirable?”
IVanity, O vanity, the Preacher says: All is vanity (Ecclesiastes 1) He has a great point for every generation.
