Jeremiah—The faithful and persevering prophet: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail
“Jeremiah gave this answer to the princes and all the people: “It was the Lord who sent me to prophesy to this house and city all that you have heard. Now, therefore, reform your ways and your deeds; listen to the voice of the Lord your God so that the Lord will relent of the evil which he treathens you.” Jer 26: 11-13.
One of the greatest prophets proclaiming the Word of the Lord is Jeremiah. In the olden times, the prophets are often ridiculed and stoned for prophesying the Word of God. And Jeremiah is not exempt from this suffering.
The prophet Jeremiah said that he was sent by God. At this generation, if somebody, out of the blue will say, “I am sent by God,” people will just brush him or her off. At this present age, we have the Church proclaiming the Word! It is still the same message, “Repent! Come back to the Lord.”
On the other hand, the message in this generation is not focused on punishment but on the Mercy of God. The Church proclaims an Ever-Forgiving God full of mercy and compassion. Just repent of your sins and amend your ways!
Come, let us welcome the invitation of God. No matter what circumstances you are, sinners, adulterers and all, come! God is waiting for you for a long time. Bend your knees, adore Him, worship Him for apart from Him, there is no salvation!
