Avoid the haughty eye: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail

At times, our intense abiding to the precepts of doctrines will not help us at all.  With observation, I have seen people who do all the liturgical steps of an almost saintly life!  On the other hand, they forgot the other side of the coin.  Love of God and love of one’s neighbour should operate in tandem.  We can’t separate the two commandments.

No matter how much our faith is, then we look at our neighbour with haughty eyes; nothing happens.   It does not sound good.   Then, we may look down upon others, abuse them verbally or treat them coldly.   It’s not the right kind of faith.  It’s with hypocrisy.

Come, let us have   a warm faith and good works.  That’s really what it’s meant to be.

Dear Lord, grant us a sincere and strong faith and love for you.  Help us to translate this love into a love for our neighbours.  Let us avoid a haughty eye, but instead that we may love them as we love ourselves.
