Samuel was sent to Bethlehem to anoint a king for God. He was looking at Jesse’s sons. “When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, ‘Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.” But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” by Jane Pimenta
1 Samuel 16:6-7
Sometimes we want to surrender and try our best to, but fear and anxiety clings to us. Let us not be discouraged by that – it is an external. God looks at our hearts that want to surrender, our hearts that keep up the struggle to surrender and He is impressed with the internal.

Most often, perfect and complete faith is not possible, and that’s okay. God looks on us with love when we fall, when we stumble, He sees the desire we have to be faithful to Him and He sees our struggle to be faithful. Our desire and struggle are our strengths fighting off evil. Let us rejoice God is with us, anointing us with His Spirit.
(Thanks Jane for this uplifting and excellent reflection on God's way of looking on the heart).
