The joy of the Lord is our strength: Reflection by Jane Pimenta of Prayer Aid

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”   Nehemiah 8:10

The joy the Lord gives us all, is our strength in times of trouble.   Joy is internal, it comes to us when we are at peace with God and ourselves.    Happiness is external, when things go our way, when we meet with someone we love… it does not last.   The enemy is interested in stealing our joy – he is not after our ambitions, our health, our finance, or even our family.  He wants our joy, because Nehemiah is saying to us, that JOY is our strength in the midst of trouble.  Once the enemy gets our joy, he gets everything.  So no matter what we are faced with today, let us praise and thank God, let us rejoice, He is in control, and as the scripture is encouraging eat and drink well!!  Let us smile at everyone and decide to be joyful in all circumstances.  (Jane got the core point in this reflection.  “The joy of the Lord is our strength.”  When depression grips a person, the enemy stole that person’s joy!  Since that will not happen without the person’s consent, it is important for him or her not to concede that gift of the Lord.  The person has to be strong in the Lord.  Let us pray for God’s protection through His Amgels and saints.  Blessed be the Lord forever!).
