“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul” Thus says the Lord: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell.” (Matthew 10: 28)
There are may passages in Holy Scripture where the Lord says, “Be not afraid!” However, what do we do? We are always afraid of every whiff of the wind on everything that happens around us.” The Lord did not say that we should not be vigilant. Only, “Be not afraid.” This is a test of our faith.
Why should we be afraid in the first place. If one is truly grounded in God, who can be against you. The only time we could be afraid is when we commit sins that needs forgiveness from God. Sins are vicious, we made a choice to do evil in the sight of our beloved God. Actually, this is the very truth that God sent His Son into the world to save us from our sins. So if we sin which is likely with our weak flesh, we should confess our sins to regain our relationship with God.
God determines everything, the ones to be sent to heaven or hell. God’s sovereignty is encompassing. He can dissolve the universe at any time but because of His great love for His people, it did not happen! God’s power is beyond understanding. Trust in God and you will see a turnaround in your life. Life is not a bed of roses but not all bed of thorns too. Our suffering will have an end as stated in the Book of Revelation “where tears will end.”
“Be not afraid.” If we truly trust and love God, we will be at peace that what’s happening in the world will pass at a certain time. God did not promise that there are no trials and persecutions. But He promised that He will be with us till the end of time. He will never abandon us or forsake us. God’s love is everlasting forever and ever.
“Thank you God Almighty for your love through your Son Jesus. Help us to be aware of your great love and mercy that anything that we encounter day by day may not deter us from loving you and trusting you. You are our God who made heaven and earth! We will worship you and serve you till the end of our lives. Amen.”
