Colossians 3:23-24: Reflection by Cynthia Abegail

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.  Remember that the Lord will give you as a reward what he has kept for His people.  For Christ is the real Master you serve."  (Col 3: 23-24).

Daily, we toil for our bread.  We could be doing a myriad of things in our life.  One could be caring for his/her children, one may be a manager of a company, one may be a simple farmer of a rural land.  Whatever we do and whatever our state in life does not matter.  What matters is how we work and whom do we work for.  At the back of our mind, we must be aware that we are working for the Lord, the true Master of all universe!

When we work, never invite sloth!  For sloth is one of the deadly sins.  We should work with vigour, vitality and enthusiasm.  We are not slaves of anyone except servants of the Lord.  One maybe rich or poor but it does not matter.  Work for the Lord and not for men.  That is what it's meant to be.  Read His Word, praise Him, worship Him!  God suffices, as St Theresa had said!  It's true, "for the heavens and earth may pass away but the Word of the Lord stands forever!"

Today, we pray that we will always place God at the centre of our lives, at the centre of our work and of everything that we do.  Where our heart is, there our treasure will be...In Jesus Most Holy Name.  Amen.
