CYNTHIA ABEGAIL'S COLUMN: POEM/PEARL OF THE ORIENT SEA

( Another Literary pearl from our popular writer Cynthia Abegail Bernardo)
Pearl of the Orient Seas

Fair as a maiden blooming as a lily in spring,
Bees of conquerors covet the islands dancing
Pristine waters adorn the lakes and falls
Pearl of the Orient Seas graces its doors.
A race of East and West and the far South,
Spaniards frolic the land of silver and gold
A span of centuries until Rizal with mould
Wrote a novel "Touch me Not" aboard!
A hero, a linguist with a touch of genius,
A poet, a painter and orator of heights
Infused with love for a nation he adores,
Penned "El Filibusterismo" by the shore.
With him as inspiration, Boniface charged,
This country should be free at last!
Rizal wrote "My Last Farewell"
A great hero of legacy abode!
