Love your enemies: That is easy to say in words but very difficult to follow. Why? In our daily dealing with people around us, we will always find people who annoy us, hurt us or simply turn us off! Very human indeed. Yet, this is not God’s way. If we truly love and follow God, we must obey what he says. It’s a commandment.
Upon reflection, we may have bore hatred in our hearts for numerous people. We just have to remember that we are not perfect and as much as people around us. They have a free will to not to please us! It’s not a matter of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Yes, we are called to holiness! What is more challenging than loving our enemies? It’s a noble task; not easy to do but we have to pray to God Almighty to give us the grace to do so. As the Lord said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing.”
“Yes, as St Theresa of Calcutta once said, ‘Holiness is not a privilege of a few but an obligation of all.” Source of quote: God’s Word 2020, Fr Blaise Kandathil, SSP (Editor) and Fr Joby Matthew, SSP, Feb contributor, Alberione Good News Centre: India, 2020.
