It is rare that we come across some excellent people and New World is very lucky to welcome such a person once again to our New World Family. This esteemed person is Ms. Shobhana Nair of India who was the only woman Principal of Hyderabad Public Schools in India to her credit in its 86 years of existence. Ms. Nair has very closely worked with Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla when she was Head Of Education Projects for Aditya Birla Group of Schools. When Ms. Laura Bush, the First Lady of the United States of America visited India , Ms. Shobhana Nair met her for a conference of the most influential women of India who were the strongest advocates empowering women in India.Ms.Nair holds Masters Degree in History and a long time ago, she used to perform on stage(Malayalam, Hindi and English Plays) and also writing/story telling has always been primarily important for her with public speaking a close second. We are very happy that Ms. Shobhana Nair is a contributing Editor of our New World and she has given many valuable Poems and stories to our readers and has guided us with her valuable experience. The Fern and the Bamboo
One day I decided to quit...
I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality...
I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
"God", I said. can you give me one good reason not to quit?"
His answer surprised me...
"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.
"I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year, the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo", He said.
"In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. "I would not quit." He said.
"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6 month later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It has spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."
He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots"
"I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you."
"Don't compare yourself to others." He said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet, they both make the forest beautiful."
"Your time will come", God said to me. "You will rise high!"
"How high should I rise?" I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"As high as it can?" I questioned.
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

God’s Power, Protection and Providence are always flowing out to us every time we come before Him and humbly and trustingly ask for His help.

Sit quietly before Him and feel His Power and Protection over you, your family, and whatever concerns you. Jesus loves you and wants to protect you from all that is harmful; will you surrender your life to Him and let Him control it completely?

Be quiet and surrender your life, and your situation, as best as you can to Jesus. Pray for an infilling of His Holy Spirit.

A GREAT LESSON FROM ALEXANDER THE GREAT. SUSAN JOHN

Have you heard of Alexander the Great? Alexander the Great is remembered in history as the greatest military commanders of all time. This legend about Alexander shows how the great commander learnt some valuable lessons even though a little late.

Alexander was the son of Philip II, the King of a small kingdom called Macedon in Ancient Greece. After his father’s death, Alexander was crowned the King of Macedon.

Young Alexander had only one goal, that of conquering the world! He spent his life attacking nearby kingdoms and capturing them. He amassed a lot of wealth and riches due to these campaigns but was never satisfied. He always wanted more. He lost many brave soldiers in battle and killed many innocent people in his conquests but never thought much of it as he felt the cause was worthwhile. During these battles, he got wounded many times and escaped death a few times, but he battled on as if the cause was much greater than even his life.

While returning from one such campaign, Alexander fell seriously ill. No one knows for sure what caused his illness; historians and medical experts say there is evidence that it could have been the strain of the long drawn campaigns or an infection he didn’t bother to treat on time, or poisoning by some enemies posing as friends! Alexander’s physician at that time was known to be the best in the land. But his treatment had no effect on the ailing King. As Alexander’s condition worsened, more physicians were called in from all over the world, but the King’s condition continued to deteriorate. Soon Alexander realised that death was certain. In his bed, and with nothing else to do, he introspected on his short life and realised many things that he had missed earlier. He then asked for a final meeting with his close associates. When his friends gathered the dying King narrated his three last wishes.

His first wish was that only his physicians carry his coffin home! His second wish was that gold, silver, and gems from his treasury be strewn in the path when his coffin was being taken to the tomb! His third and last wish was that when he died, his hands be placed hanging outside his coffin!

All the wishes sounded very strange and very uncharacteristic of the Great Alexander. The listeners wondered if the King was serious. Seeing their perplexed faces, the dying King explained.

He wanted his physicians to carry his coffin home so that people would realise that even the best physicians could do nothing when death came. He had never thought of his life or that of others precious but now realised it had been his greatest mistake. He now wished that everyone respected life since it was the greatest gift of all.

He wanted gold, silver, and gems from his treasury to be strewn in the path when his coffin was being taken to the tomb to show people that though he had spent his life acquiring them, it had been a useless pursuit. All the wealth was useless to him now since he wouldn’t be alive to enjoy it.

He then explained his last wish. He wanted his hands to be placed outside the coffin so that people would see that though he had conquered a good portion of the world, and was arguable the richest man in the world, he would still be going empty handed, just how he had come!

These solemn truths, perhaps, were of little use to the great Alexander in his deathbed but it has given many people who followed food for thought and principles to live their life on. Hope it is so in your case to.

Possessing money is a privilege, not a right! Most people have an attitude that says they have a right to have money. But the Bible says none of us have the right to possess money, but we do have a responsibility to use it wisely.

Work: Work builds your confidence, develops character and discipline. We should teach our children to work by our example.

Save: A wise man saves. A fool spend s it all.
In order to save you must:
1. Have sales resistance. Follow common sense and not your feelings.
2. Do not be guilty of presumption, where you assume the money you spend will show up somewhere, sometime later. Like charging it when not having the money to pay it off right away.

Plan:
1. KNOW where you are financially.
2. KEEP a written budget.
3. HAVE responsible priorities in your spending.

Pray: We need to ask God to meet our daily needs and be thankful for the way He provides.

According to The Bible we are to be debt free and only owe people our love. When you owe money to someone you became their servant.

How to become free from debt

1. Start with written budget.

Record all your expenses and income totaling your monthly budget. Then begin to live within it.

2. Determine the difference between “needs, wants and desires”
3. Begin to eliminate non essentials.
4. Think before buying.
5. Discontinue credit buying.
6. Avoid leverage
7. Practice saving.

Is lack of money the problem? No. You correct your buying habit and spending habit.
Follow the simple and easy steps shown above; I am sure you will start seeing some20results.

One day, I was strolling by the beach. I could not help but admire the complexity
and vastness of the ocean. I look up again at the sky with myriad colors of the
clouds and I remembered the beauty of God's creation. I run like a child to meet
the teasing waves; I just love the cold water that touched my feet. How I enjoy
this moment of the wind-swept sea and the whitish sand that encompasses my
eyes.

Suddenly, I thought of Liza, that devout old friend of mine who had battled cancer
for three months. She had a life that makes you teary-eyed. Her husband is a
drunkard and one of the worst men I have ever seen. He is rude to the bones and
I really do not know if he has ever known, "good manners and right conduct." I
do not really judge this person, but I maybe have just have a heart for my petite
friend. Lisa just died and I cried so much because I had empathy for her.

If there is a need for a saint, I will nominate my friend. When she was living, she
had a big heart for everybody and how she smiled! One will mirror the pureness
of her heart...

I knew the story of Job, the one who suffered so much but was rewarded in the end. This story fascinates me because it is a part and parcel of our lives. Who did not suffer in one way or another in this world? It just proves that we are all in
solidarity in this world!

Look around us... A paralyzed man, a drug addict in the gutter, a homeless man.
When I saw a picture of thousands of children dying in the streets, my heart just
melted away.

Life is an enigma, but hope is just for the world. God does not sleep...

Steamed Fried Shrimps (Halabos na Hipon, Philippine recipe)

1 lb. large shrimps with shells
¼ cup water
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. oil

1.Put shrimps, water and salt in saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil, stir once or twice, cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Drain.
2.Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, sauté shrimps until coated with oil (about 1 to 2 minutes).

THE RAT WHO SWALLOWED THE FOX

This was heard from the grape vine.
A guy in New Delhi started working for an export-Import Company as a typist. A lady was the boss and the Office was in her home. She told the new guy that the 'Big Boss' was on a foreign tour. He worked a month and the lady told that he would get his salary as soon as the 'Big Boss' returns a day later. Big boss came the next day but he seemed to be a little weak. He had a long beard and his jacket was dusty. The Boss told that he was in Germany and had a long flight. Poor employee was never paid and the promise was extended to another month. Nothing happened. The employee was ready to leave. Then came a young man to the office and the big Boss told that this new guy came for an interview and he was supposed to put a deposit for becoming a Cashier of the Company. The Boss told that his Company was exporting and importing Tractors from Italy and the farmers from Punjab and other States are supposed to bring in deposit for placing Order. Many came and put up some money. The Boss did all the transactions showing the pictures of Tractors on the Wall.
One day the servant in the house told the employee secretly that in fact, this Boss was a big crook and he had gone to Jail for some crime of cheating people. He had told a big lie that he was in Germany, when actually he was in Jail. The employee knew that this Cashier guy was also going to be cheated but could not say anything in the presence of the Boss.
The Cashier promised to put the sum of money to get the job. The Boss told the employee that he would be paid his salary in two days.
Next day the Cashier guy came back. He called the Big Boss and talked to him secretly. Oh! the Boss was happy. The Cashier guy told the Boss to pay the other employee's salary. The Boss happily paid a little more money in addition to the regular salary.
The Cashier guy and the Boss went inside a room. After one hour they came out. The Boss permitted the Cashier guy to take the employee outside for a cup of Coffee.
Outside the house the 'Cashier guy' told the employee to leave the place as soon as possible because the Boss was really a crook and a Criminal which the employee had known from the servant boy. So he went home happily with his salary. The next day the employee got a telephone call from the 'Cashier guy'. He learned an interesting story.
The Boss used to cheat everyone by showing the picture of the Tractors by taking money as a deposit but never had any business and never sold a single Tractor. The Cashier guy was going to lose his deposit money for the job also.Knowing this, the Cashier guy played a big game. He told the Boss that he was an expert in duplicating the currency and should bring him a lot of cash. Next day when the Cashier had come to the Boss's house, the Boss had a lot of Cash to duplicate it. He took him to a room and the Cashier guy pretended to keep a big pack of money with white papers of the same size of the currency and asked the Boss to wait 24 hours to make it happen to double the money.
The Cashier Guy told the Boss that all the currencies would be duplicated in 24 hours but in fact when the Boss opened it after 24 hours there were only two currencies on both side of the pack and only white papers left in the pack and the rest of the cash was in the Cashier guy's Pocket.He had gone for ever leaving the Boss. POOR BOSS !!

In times of difficulty, stress and confusion it is very important to place our hand in the hand of Jesus and allow Him to lead us. If we fail to, we may be allowing our negative thoughts to lead us.

Universally life is getting more and more difficult, family life is taking a terrible beating, married life is becoming a big challenge, growing old for some is a nightmare. Everyone is rushing from one place or job to another! The only One who can help us in every situation, the only One we can always depend on, the only One who can give us peace and joy, is sadly neglected in coping with life. Yet, this is the one Person we cannot push out of our life. No matter how life is unfolding for us, Jesus our only hope.

Last week, I was caught in a situation that filled my mind and heart with powerful negative thoughts. One day, at random I picked up a book, and opened it at random too. This is what I read, I’d like to share with you “Do not fill your heart with your thoughts. In any decision that you face, come to Me. Look for the answer in My Word, and seek to do what My Word says. As you base your decisions according to my Word, I will transform you and you will see My love and power flow out to you in a way that you never imagined. This is my blessing and reward” May you be blessed as I was.
